With 24 years of experience, Sebastián Barriga has distinguished himself as a visionary strategist throughout his professional career. During his time at Carlyle, he participated in the investment of seven companies across Peru, Chile, and Colombia, working alongside globally recognized experts. He also gained experience as an investment banker at Salomon Smith Barney and later at Citigroup, both in New York and Mexico.
His focus on entrepreneurship is equally remarkable. As an angel investor, he has supported more than 10 startups, establishing himself as a reference in identifying unique opportunities and designing differentiating strategies. He also founded milemark•capital, a Venture Capital fund based at MIT, where he has led investments in nine startups specializing in cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology.
In academia, Sebastián holds an MBA from the Sloan Fellows program at MIT and a degree from the University of Texas at Austin. His connection with MIT extends to roles as a board member of the Visiting Fellows program, mentor in acceleration programs such as MIT delta v, MITdesignX, Techstars Boston, MIT Legatum Center, and the Massachusetts Innovation Network. Additionally, he serves as an academic mentor in the Global Entrepreneurship Lab course led by Professor Simon Johnson, the 2024 Nobel Laureate in Economics.
